A blessing to remember! India Catalina award for best director of photography 2020 with Bolívar TV serie

Posted: Thursday, May 7, 2020 by Juan Carlos Cajiao Velasco Freelance Director and Director Of Photography in Labels: , , , ,

At the Cartagena International Film Festival 2020, we had the great surprise and fortune of being awarded with the India Catalina award for best photographer for a TV serie: Bolivar. Produced for Caracol TV and Netflix.

With all the things that has happened around the Globe, this event is just like a dream that was stuck hidden behind this quarantine madness. Although, to update the blog and looking for write down a thanks note to the jury and audience for their benevolence and care about our work on this project is just fair to raise our forehead to say that Bolivar was an spectacular project, challenging for everyone but with an aftertaste of a job made with effort, love and conviction.

Record on Sony F55 cameras, almost all scenes at real locations! We looked for that living backgrounds with the real patina needed to transport everyone to that time and space where some men and women were fighting for freedom of our people.
We counted with a talented cast that let us all to be immersed in that reality with the way they just breathed and talk around the set.

To create the mood and atmosphere of a time when there were not electricity was a challenge precisely in order of avoid "seeing our lighting". But with a mixed technique of new technologies and special lighting set ups we just got the right ambience needed by cast and cameras to get involved. And working again with the great director Andrés Beltrán completed the right environment to create the magic together.

It was really satisfying when the cast entered a set and exclaimed: wow, it seems like 1800´s!

Now the only expected is a happy audience that enjoy the show and remember how hard was the fight of this heroes and heroines that got freedom for our nations.

Hopely this Covid-19 circumstances just finished soon and we can get all of us on a set safely. By now I invite you to watch the serie, and enjoy it the same way we enjoyed shooting it!

Posted: Wednesday, April 1, 2020 by Juan Carlos Cajiao Velasco Freelance Director and Director Of Photography in Labels: , , , ,

Again my dearest friends William Barragan (director) and Nara (artist) invite me to another adventure! Now with a neon, brightful look photography using ultraviolet lighting and special make designs to grab this outstanding images where the vibrants colors just explode in front of camera. Using a Black Magic Pocket 4K Cinema Camera that showed a great response even in this low light conditions we worked.

Here some grab shots! Check the video clip out on YouTube! The way the lights just turn up the make is really a magic trick.

Again being the DoP of a William´s project is a good way to get fun and try new things!! Cheers!
